Privacy Policy

This policy explains what pdf2md collects and what it does not. The short version: the PDFs you convert never leave your browser, and the only personal data we hold is an email address you have to type in yourself.
Who we are
pdf2md is an independent project run by a solo developer ("pdf2md", "we", "us"). For data protection purposes we are the controller of the personal information described below. Write to hello@pdf2md.me about anything on this page.
The files you convert
They are never uploaded. Conversion runs inside your browser, in a WebAssembly engine the page downloads to your machine. Your PDF is read by code running on your own computer and never becomes a network request, so:
- we never receive it;
- there is nothing for us to store, and no retention period to state;
- we cannot use it to train anything;
- there is nothing of yours for us to delete.
You do not have to take our word for it. Load this page, disconnect from the network, and convert a file. It still works.
What we do collect
The OCR waitlist. If you type an email address into the waitlist form, we store that address, the capability you asked about, and the language of the page you were on. We use it to send you one notification when the capability ships, and for nothing else. We do not sell it, share it, or add it to any other list.
Usage analytics. We use Microsoft Clarity to see which parts of the page people struggle with. It records page interactions — clicks, scrolls, and the general shape of a session — and it sets cookies to do so (see the Cookie Policy). It never sees a document you convert or the Markdown that comes out, because neither leaves your browser.
Server logs. Requests to the site are logged by our hosting provider in the ordinary way, including IP address and user agent, for security and troubleshooting.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on your consent for the waitlist (you typed the address in), and on our legitimate interest in understanding and securing the site for analytics and server logs.
How long we keep it
The waitlist address is kept until the notification has been sent or you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first. Analytics data is kept for as long as the provider's own retention window allows.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or the UK you have the right to access, correct, or erase the personal data we hold about you, to object to processing, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. In practice the only thing we are likely to hold is a waitlist email address, and one message to hello@pdf2md.me removes it.
Children
This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the effective date above. Because we hold so little, changes are likely to be about analytics rather than about your files.
